  God answers JW prayers about trivialities while ignoring the abuse of little children

  i've heard many experiences about how jehovah answers the prayers of jw's - convention items about pioneers gas bills, car repairs, job opportunities.

  now, if this is true, you are actually stating that god has directly intervened in your life.

  How can you imply this and expect people to take you seriously?

  Unfortunately, anyone who calls himself a Christian has this narcissistic view of God. He is there to fulfill any of your wishes: get a job, give strength to endure, send punishment to people you dislike, cure cancer, bring back your loved ones safely, let you see a new day, etc etc. And all this takes place while God ignores the painful deaths of 9 million children under five y.o every year.

  It's not a JW thing, it's a human thing. We are superstitious, selfish and narcissistic. And that's fine with me as long as there are great minds who keep us aware of those tendencies. Thank you Spinoza, Francis Bacon, Copernicus and all those who followed for saving us from ourselves

  The origin of life? We don't know... yet. We may never now

  Morality? That's an easy one. Humans created it because it was a good set of rules to make cooperation within the group run smoothly. The morality we find in the Bible came from the neighbors of the Israelites, not an invisible entity in the sky, and today we only preserve very little of it. Christians can't bring themselves to follow all the horrible moral rules found in Deuteronomy and Leviticus, just to mention the main ones.
  

  The biggest problem I have with Christians is their arrogance: If humans don't know something, or it's a bit controversial, therefore God exist, God is good, God saves...oh I almost forgot... It's THE GOD OF THE BIBLE. The others are not real.
  

  Up until 5 years ago I used to be indifferent to religious zealots. Today, after lots of research on the Bible, Judaism and Christianity, I find Christians quite annoying. Their arrogance, supported by ignorance and credulity, is the main problem

  the Court did not reach a verdict because the parties settled.

  Ye, we can surmise that the Watchtower, in the Conti case, felt they could put up a fight, and it did. But not much of a fight was presented in this case. Based on the testimony, they did the right thing; they quit before it got worse, much worse

  Perry: So your objective is to introduce as much doubt as possible so that people would reject the concept of Salvation

  I thing Doug just wants to learn as much as he can and share that with as many people as possible. If the readers decide to reject the concept of salvation, then Doug unintentionally is doing a great service to humanity. It would be a step forward in the direction of maturing and leaving behind belief in fairy tales and myths.

  Fisherman: Plaintiff's settled for what they only wanted- money..

  ... and the Watchtower paid, early, without much of a defense, and paid possibly much more than they hoped. At least the Conti case in California reached the appeals phase before settlement

  You are no longer a JW, but you still carry blind faith with you. When it comes to health the easiest and best choice is exercise (weight training and aerobics) and a good balanced diet. Add some meditation or yoga to release stress. Don't worry too much about supplements or foods with extraordinary claims of preventing or curing diseases, unless there's very strong research behind the claim.

  most of the relationship has been long distance.

  when we started dating, we wanted a serious long term relationship that would end in marriage one day.

  1. Run, run away from this relationship

  2. Spend few months doing some thorough research, and then run away as far as possible from any relationship with men who belong to religions like these.

  Well, there's a third one. Make him quit his religion. But on this point your chances are not good at all.

  I am married to a good JW woman and I can confirm that what Carla says above is absolutely truth. And please don't you think that you will change your man after you marry him. He will dump you right away if you try it.

  Richard,

  Thank you for your response. I certainly can agree with the husband-wife, attorney-client, doctor-patient privileges. However, as you suggested implicitly, many of us find quite troublesome how religion uses and abuses the clergy-penitent privilege, especially in cases of child abuse, where it has become very clear that the so called spiritual leaders are bent of protecting their material, earthly possessions and have no regard for the well being of children. Their greed takes them as far as protecting known pedophiles, who in many cases will go on to abuse more children. You see why this religious privilege is hard to justify when you set it against the other three categories, attorney-client, doctor-patient and husband-wife. I hope that, as the distaste for religion grows and its political influence wanes, law makers reconsider this undeserved privilege for religion.

  Richard, regarding your last post.

  You are right, the Watchtower becomes an extraordinarily worldly organization in the secular courts. Truth, honesty, humility, cooperation and the pursuit of the greater good for the community are qualities that are left outside of the courtroom. But when it comes to dealing with the flock, the Watchtower leadership demands those qualities like tyrants who are ready to apply the harshest punishment to anyone who dares question their views or orders.

  One word: Hypocrites!
